Don’t rely too much on Toolbar Page Rank
One of the biggest mistakes a webmaster makes is relying too heavily on toolbar Page Rank (PR). While PR has its benefits, it’s not the be all and end all of search engine rankings. PR can be used to decide which sites you would want backlinks from. Meaning that a backlink from a website with PR6, is better than one from site with PR2. But don’t be mistaken, this does not mean that a PR6 site would necessarily be listed ahead of PR2 site in the major search engines. Only very few directories will list websites in this way.
Another problem with toolbar PR is that it is only updated every three months. So if you are seeing you PR as 2 it might actually be 5… or 0. Actual Google PR is updated almost in real time.
In any case we would advise that you don't get obsessed with toolbar PR. Don't simply go for high PR backlinks alone, but rather go for relevant links i.e. get links from sites that are related to your with PR0 and above! In time, these sites will pick up PR by themselves too, so in a few months you will usually find that the PR0 site has increased its PR - and you may get a pleasant surprise.
